Email marketing is still one of the leading ways to reach your target audience.

However, email has quickly evolved from the days of “You’ve got mail,” to a daily flood of specials, offers, newsletters and save the dates. Now, in an effort to reduce clutter, people simply delete emails rather than open them. This leaves marketers and business owners searching for ways to make their email stand out and reach their core audience.

The good news is that when someone signs up to receive emails directly from your company, they’re at least somewhat interested in the products or services you offer. If they click and open your email, they’ve now become a potential customer who is actively looking to purchase your product or service.

So, how do you get someone to click on your email? Start incorporating these three simple tips to boost your open rates and start seeing solid results!

1. Write a Killer Subject Line

The subject line might be the most important part of your email, as this is what determines if your email is ignored, opened, or deleted.

Uninteresting subject lines are the main reason emails go straight to the junk folder. Or, if they are opened, it’s only so the reader can hit unsubscribe, citing the reason as “no longer interested.“

Let’s face it, most of us receive 100 plus emails a day and a majority of them contain similar subject lines. So, what will make someone open yours? A killer subject line.

You must come up with creative and strategic ways to entice your audience into taking action. Tailor your subject line to be relevant and specific. It should be immediately clear that opening your email is beneficial to them. Your subject line should also reveal just enough to make them want to click, without giving away the surprise.

But don’t stop there. The second subject line also has a major impact on your open rates. Make sure it complements your main attention grabber and further evokes a call to action.

2. Carefully Curate Your List

Another reason for low open rates is because the email is being sent to the wrong audience. Many email services offer list segments, so you can choose to distribute your message according to age brackets, gender, location and a number of other characteristics. Utilizing this will help ensure your list goes to the right audience.

Also, consider providing opportunities for customers to join your mailing list in places they already visit. For example, place a sign-up form on your website and social media platforms, where current and potential clients have already visited to learn more about your business. If they have made the effort to visit your page, it is likely that they are interested in your business and want to receive future offers and information.

3. Keep Your Message Clear and Concise

Remember, your email is another opportunity to connect with your target audience, whether or not they choose to buy what you’re selling. So, give your message your best effort and keep it tailored to your audience. Make it concise, make it beneficial, ultimately, make it action worthy! Provide many options, with different links, giving the reader a reason to click each one.

Also, if someone opens your email, make sure the message delivers what you promised! Missing this mark leads to unsubscribes and unhappy readers, when it easily could have resulted in a happy customer!
