We are the “glass half full” types.
We believe sunsets are beautiful, kittens are cute, and if you mind your own biscuits, life will be gravy.
But there are some social media rules that all the sugar in the world wouldn’t be able to coat.
So, instead of guiding you through with our normal wit and poise – we’re going to give it to you straight up!
We’ve taken the time to sit down and list out 10 Epic Social Media Dont’s for Businesses:
Don’t be a commitment-phob. Pick days and time(s) to share content and stick with it! Consistency matters.
Don’t yap to anyone who will listen. That’s just creepy. Identify your customer and speak directly to them.
Don’t post content that doesn’t align with you brand. Pictures of cute puppies aren’t relevant to your golfing business. Unless that cute puppy is golfing.
Don’t sell too much! It’s not becoming.
Don’t rely on your personal Facebook page alone for sharing content. Using your personal page for business is like marketing to your neighbourhood. If you want to reach more people – think big and use a business page.
Don’t post grainy, blurry, or pixelated photos. That means they are too small, and you need to find another option.
Don’t just create content out of thin air! Use those insights, find out what works, and keep recreating that magic!
Don’t forget to include your readers in the conversation. Keep the floor open and provide some calls to action – “tell us, share, tweet, comment," etc.
Don’t post photos of your children. We’re sorry, we know they are cute, but statistically it’s one of the fastest ways to lose followers. Just sayin’.
Don’t forget you are there to serve your readers, not the other way around. Keep your personal details to a minimum and keep the focus on them!
We should take this time to mention, all platforms are created equal in this scenario. Maybe we have just let out our best Negative Nancy impression, but we’re serious about the rules applying to any outlet you post your content to.
