It’s pumpkin season once again, and there’s no better time than the present to add a little spice to your brand! There are many elements that make up a successful branding strategy and defining what gives your brand its unique voice is crucial. Whether your company is venti or tall, there’s no one size fits all recipe for great branding. So how do you create your own recipe for branding success? Read below for a few helpful tips and discover the spice you need to bring your brand strategy to life!

1. Define Your Menu

It’s rare to walk into a coffee shop without seeing a large, easy to read menu. You should consider the same concept when developing your brand. When you walk into a Starbucks for example, you know exactly what you’re going to get – their message is clear, the products they offer are consistent, and it’s easy to find what you want. Establishing your “menu” is about so much more than simply telling customers what products or services you offer, it’s about showing them. What is your signature item? What products or services make you truly unique? What fonts and colors resonate with your mission? Fine tuning these points can take your brand from flat to frothy in a matter of no time.

2. Follow The Crumbs

Remember the story of Hansel & Gretel? The kids who wandered through the woods, following crumbs until they reached the house made of candy? Well, it’s time to follow the crumbs my friends. If you don’t create a trail to track and follow your efforts, it’s easy to get lost and you’ll have no idea how to measure your progress. With online tracking tools like Google Analytics and Facebook Insights, it’s easier than ever to track your efforts and see what’s working and what isn’t.

It’s also easy to see if you’re connecting with the right customers or if you’re completely missing the mark. Take the time to track your efforts and re-adjust your path when necessary. And sometimes, (we love this part the most) by following the “crumbs”, you’ll discover a whole new market that loves your brand. Maybe you’ve been pushing your products to millennials when instead, you make a bigger impact with Baby Boomers.

Follow the crumbs, track your efforts and eventually you’ll reach the candy house at the end of the path. (Minus the evil witch hiding inside of course.)

3. Invest in Your Key Ingredient

Great communication is one of the most fundamental ingredients when it comes to a solid brand strategy. In today’s evolving world of social media, the demand to have constant communication is not only rising but morphing into new mediums. You are now required to not only have a unique voice as a brand, but to also hold your audience captivated by what you have to say on a daily basis. While this may seem like a daunting task, it’s not as difficult as you may think.

First things first – you need to know where your consumers are spending their time before you can communicate with them. Are they gathering on Facebook? Talking on Twitter? Socializing on Snapchat? Establish where they are, and then put together a game plan to engage with them on a regular basis. One of the biggest things we stress to our clients is that if you’re going to be somewhere, be there consistently.

When you need your daily coffee on the way to work, you probably stop at the same coffee house because you know that they’re going to be open and have what you want. The same concept applies to communication. People won’t visit your social platforms if they know you rarely post new content or have nothing interesting to say. Show up and be consistent. It’s really as simple as that.

4. Be Your Own Signature Drink

No matter the season, it is important to stay true to your brand and what makes it unique. While products and services may come and go, think of your brand as its own signature drink, the foundation of who you are. Sure, you’ll probably tweak your recipe a little from time to time, but as a whole, your signature drink should be a representation of who you are, what you’re great at, and why customers choose you over your competitors.

Maybe your signature drink isn’t as adventurous as Pumpkin Spice? Maybe you’re more of a reliable Vanilla Latte? That’s okay! Whatever it is, be authentic, be genuine, and your customers will keep coming back for more.
