If there is one thing we can all agree on - Social Media has changed a lot over the last few years. Long gone are the days of yore where we simply posted and waited. Now, the best way to reach your target audience is with the use of Advertising. More specifically - Facebook Advertising.

You know this isn't our first or last post about the subject. We love to rave about the benefits we (and our clients) have seen. But we understand with a Facebook Ad comes great responsibility. So much terminology floats around the process of putting one together - it's hard not to wish for an app to do it for you.

Maybe one day that will come - we can't predict the future - but until then we decided to compile a list of the 10 terms to help make things easier.

Campaign - This is the overall term for the ad you would like to create. Here, you're able to control the objective, such as Page likes, video views or app installs.

Conversion - Conversions are customer-completed actions, like purchases or adding to a cart on a website. The results will depend on what you have decided is the goal for your original campaign.

Cost Per Action - This is the average amount that you're paying for each action people take on your ads. What you pay depends on who you're targeting and how many other advertisers are competing to show their ads to your audience. Well-designed ads will encourage more people to take an action, and the more actions you get for your budget, the lower your cost per action will be.

CPC (Cost Per Click) - Cost per click for all clicks on your ad. The amount you're charged each time someone interacts with your ad. Your total charges are based on the amount you spent on the ad divided by all clicks the ad received.

Impressions - The number of times an ad was viewed. With a few exceptions, an impression is counted each time an ad can be viewed when it enters a person's screen on Facebook, Instagram or Audience Network.

Placement - This is where your ad is shown. Ads may show in Facebook's mobile News Feed, desktop News Feed and right column. Ads may also show on Instagram and the Audience Network.

Potential Reach - Potential reach is the number of monthly active people on Facebook that match the audience you defined through your audience targeting selections.

Reach – This figure will show you just how many people actually saw you ad.

Targeted Audience - Targeted audience is the number of people your targeting can reach. You'll see an estimate of this when you are creating your ad. Facebook also provides an audience graph so you can see who you are reaching and who you could be reaching.

Total Conversion Value - The total revenue returned from conversions or Facebook credit spends that occurred on your website or app. This is based on the value assigned to the conversion type in your pixel code.
