Do you need a new website?

We’re guessing, if you’re reading this post, this isn’t the first time you have considered a new website. Maybe it’s the voice in your head, or maybe it’s the voice of a friend trying to nudge you in the direction for the millionth time.

Your website is the first impression you make with your customers, and the truth is people are judgmental.

10 times out of 10 a clients comes to your site looking for something specific, and if they don’t find what they need - they leave. Yes, it’s quite possible they misunderstood the service you offered, but Google is so on fleek these days, we wouldn’t give it a large margin.

Our guess? Your website didn’t give them what they needed, and in this digital age that’s simply unacceptable.

So to make doubly sure you website status is on par, we created a quick checklist!

1. Is your website responsive?

60% of individuals use their mobile phone as their primary Internet source. With so many individuals using phones and tablets to access the Internet, it would be in very poor judgment to offer a mobile responsive option. In fact 67% of consumers are willing to purchase from a smartphone as long as the site is mobile optimize to make it user friendly. How do you like them apples?

2. Is your content relevant?

If you’ve had to explain to a client that the information they are seeing online isn’t correct, then it’s time for you to hash out a plan to get that fixed. The more up-to-date your site’s information, the happier people (and Google) will be. Plus, every time you update your website – you’re letting Google and other search engines know that you still exist and are indeed a viable, healthy business.

3. Is your site Social Media Optimized?

If you have any form of social media account related to your business and it’s not accessible from your website – you need to update it. End of story.

4. Does your site capture potential client information?

We’ve discussed before the importance of an email campaign (click here for a refresher) and the best way to get sign ups is through your website. Somewhere, preferably on every page, your customers should have an opt-in form to submit their emails.

5. Can you change the content yourself?

This sounds silly, but our guess is an overwhelming majority of small business owners cannot. We think this is absolutely insane. Quite often websites are outsourced, which is totally understandable, but access to your website’s content shouldn’t read like a VIP list with out you on it. If you can’t make simple updates to your website, especially when content is outdated – it’s time to make a change.

If we are really passionate about any of the above points, it’s definitely the last! We have worked with so many clients who have had issues getting their web developer from 2007 to update their content. In the age of information, this is a major problem.

If you’ve been considering a new or updated site we would encourage you to reach out to us, because our method of web designing is more inclusive. We can hash out all the small details (and make it look pretty), then hand you back the controls so you can update it as you need! But don’t worry, we will make sure to explain where everything is so you feel comfortable doing so.
